Keith Williams B.A. (Hons) Fine Art

Although I have always painted there was no real structure or direction. It reached a point where I needed to artistically express my feelings by offering a strong voice from within, which coincided with a move from Cheshire to Laugharne, Carmarthenshire in November 2005.

West Wales played an important part in life's early experiences as annual family holidays were spent with grandparents in Laugharne, but gone are the days, those magical days of childhood, full of innocence and exploring.

These days, I continue to explore; in my 'Chosen Land'.

The challenge is to generate a body of work, regarded as important in a contemporary fine art context, based on three distinct areas; West Wales. St Ives (Porthmeor Studios) and time spent painting abroad. This website shows my journey of contemporary, abstract and conceptual thinking, with present developments into the unknown; and who knows what the future will hold.

Why Llareggub?
Dylan Thomas introduced the fictional village of Llareggub (spelt backwards becomes bugger all) and the setting that is Under Milk Wood, in his 'play for voices'.

MARY ANN THE SAILORS [Loudly]
It is Spring in Llareggub in the sun in my old age, and this is the Chosen Land.
Under Milk Wood

Dylan Thomas lived in Laugharne on and off for around fifteen years where he wrote Under Milk Wood as well as other published works. Many feel Llareggub is based on Laugharne and old Laugharne characters were the inspiration for his fictional ones.

'There is only one position for an artist anywhere;
and that is upright.'
